Today the area code of 551 in New Jersey covers 14 cities like Bayonne, Cliffside, Edgewater, Elmwood, Fair Wood, Fair Lawn, Fair View, Hackensack, Jersey City, Kearny, Ramsey, Saddle Brook, Union City, Weehawken, Wyckoff etc. There are twenty six exchanges that come under this area code. The other two area codes that were created with area code 551 were 862 and 848. In the recent years due to the increase in population and the growing demand for phone lines, two overlay codes are 973 and 732 were subsequently created. These two codes were successful in providing phone services to New Jersey and are still in operation today.
